Barbara Zicari

My journey through life has been a search for purpose and meaning. It has led me to question and seek answers in intellectual, spiritual and physical endeavors. I have found great refuge in the Buddhist teachings on change, emptiness and the Four Noble Truths.

Along the way, I have had the pleasure to volunteer in many different capacities including The American Association of University Women as a mentor, as a docent at the Smithsonian Institution, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen West, Sleepy Hollow in Tarrytown, NY and as a volunteer yoga instructor at the Herndon Senior Center. The gift of my family has given me great joy throughout this journey.

A lifelong yoga practice led to my choice to complete my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Life Power Yoga in 2015 and my 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Beloved Yoga in 2017. Embracing the Yama of Satya has become an important part of my learning experience. To quote Deborah Adele, the author of The Yamas and Niyamas, “When we are real rather than nice, when we choose self-expression over self-indulgence, when we choose growth over the need to belong, and when we choose fluidity over rigidity we begin to understand the deeper dynamics of truthfulness, and we begin to taste the freedom and goodness of the jewel.”

The gift of yoga has allowed me to embrace self-love and love for other human beings. My hope is to continue to evolve and learn, to be a compassionate human being and to continue to practice and share yoga throughout my lifetime.
