In Beginners, you will build the foundation for your yoga practice and receive individualized attention as you gain flexibility, strength, and balance. Classes focus on alignment and exploring the fundamentals of standing and seated poses, backbends and twists. Modifications will be provided.

Sanderijn Batelaan

Sanderijn fell in love with yoga at her very first class at the Reston YMCA taught by Devra Kudeviz. What was to be a six week session turned into a nineteen  year obsession. In October of 2005 when there was a scheduling snafu, she came forward to teach and became enthralled  by being on the other side. She immediately enrolled in the Health Advantage 200 hours Yoga Teacher Training with Doug Keller. Since then she studied with Maryam Ovissi for an additional 300 hours, and finally finished Beloved’s 800 hour Yoga Therapeutic Training in 2014. Sanderijn loves to teach yoga in a way that is grounding and relaxing and she does not take herself too seriously. It is important to her that students feel safe, have fun, and not feel that they have to have a bendy body or fancy yoga pants in order to get the full benefits of the practice. Relax, it’s just yoga!

Cindy Jeffers

Cindy has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 10 years, having completed her first 200-hour teacher training with Bhekaji Lynch in Washington, D.C. Wanting to deepen her yoga training, she completed her advanced 300 hour training with Beloved Yoga in 2012. Over the years, she has studied with different master teachers, but her primary teachers are close to home: Maryam Ovissi, Jafar Alexander and David Ingalls. It is her students, however, that are her inspiration.

It is her hope that in her classes students will be able to cultivate a comfortable relationship with their breath, and settle into a slower, deeper physical practice.

Lisa Hviding

Lisa’s journey into the study of yoga goes back many years. She first signed up for a 90-day trial at “It’s Yoga” when she lived in San Francisco back in the 90s and has been practicing ever since. In 2016, Lisa found her opportunity to dive a little deeper through the teacher training at Beloved Yoga. Eager to share her passion for yoga, she was determined to hone her understanding so that she could communicate, “why yoga!” This inquiry of “Why” guided Lisa through Beloved’s 200 hr and 300 hr teacher trainings. It was a deep dive that grounded her practice through the exploration of traditional teachings, and reaffirmed their value in our modern world. Whether understood as sattva or homeostasis, Lisa is dedicated to sharing the wisdom of yoga, as it offers essential tools of self-regulation. She firmly believes that yoga is for everyone. Her experience has made her adept at meeting students where they are, offering the customizations that help to build a relationship with the body, breath and mind. Lisa is a 500 RYT through the Yoga Alliance. Her training includes Pranayama, Yin, Senior, Trauma Informed and Accessible Yoga.

Amy Pulupa

My yoga journey began in 2002 when I walked into my first Anusara class. Stepping onto the mat instantly felt like home. Since then, I have spent a lot of free time exploring and practicing. In 2019, the stars aligned and I completed my 200-hour YTT at Beloved Yoga in Reston, Va under the mentorship of Maryam Ovissi.

My classes emphasize the importance of practicing continual awareness to create a union of mind and body through movement and breath. I believe that yoga is designed for everyone, and is a system that can be used to shape and strengthen not only the body but more importantly, to enhance the mind and create a better quality of life.

Lynnie Vessels

I began taking yoga classes in 1993, thinking I’d never teach - because that’s what I did all day long. I wanted yoga to be the place where I could just relax and be a student. Yoga has given me enormous personal growth. After being retired for five years, I took yoga teacher training at Beloved to further my knowledge of yoga, again, never thinking I’d teach. Something happened to me during training. My creativity was ignited and I realized I could combine my love of teaching and yoga to create a joyful atmosphere for people. That’s what I want to do at Beloved.

Zara Quinn

Zara embarked on her yoga journey in 2010 during a challenging period in her life. She discovered that stepping onto the yoga mat provided her with a profound sense of centering, grounding, and empowerment—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Driven by a desire to delve deeper into the transformative science of yoga, Zara completed her 200-hour training at Beloved Yoga. Zara designs her classes to cultivate harmony between breath and movement, with the intention of not only of opening the body but also nurturing self-awareness through the practice of compassion. In addition to teaching yoga, Zara is a Transformational Coach, considering herself a perpetual student of life. Her commitment to continuous learning is reflected in an impressive array of certifications, including Life Coach, Emotional Transformation Coach, EFT practitioner and Usui Reiki Master, Ra-Sheeba Master, Ho’oponopono Practitioner, as well as an Energy Healer Diploma. Zara extends her teachings beyond the mat, leading workshops, retreats, and personalized transformational coaching sessions across the US and internationally. To learn more about her offerings and philosophy, you can explore her website, www.zarifequinn.com. Outside the realm of yoga and coaching, Zara finds joy in hiking, connecting with nature, exploring new destinations, indulging in reading, and continual study.
