In Beginners, you will build the foundation for your yoga practice and receive individualized attention as you gain flexibility, strength, and balance. Classes focus on alignment and exploring the fundamentals of standing and seated poses, backbends and twists. Modifications will be provided.

Sanderijn Batelaan

Sanderijn fell in love with yoga at her very first class at the Reston YMCA taught by Devra Kudeviz. What was to be a six week session turned into a nineteen  year obsession. In October of 2005 when there was a scheduling snafu, she came forward to teach and became enthralled  by being on the other side. She immediately enrolled in the Health Advantage 200 hours Yoga Teacher Training with Doug Keller. Since then she studied with Maryam Ovissi for an additional 300 hours, and finally finished Beloved’s 800 hour Yoga Therapeutic Training in 2014. Sanderijn loves to teach yoga in a way that is grounding and relaxing and she does not take herself too seriously. It is important to her that students feel safe, have fun, and not feel that they have to have a bendy body or fancy yoga pants in order to get the full benefits of the practice. Relax, it’s just yoga!

Cindy Jeffers

Cindy has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 10 years, having completed her first 200-hour teacher training with Bhekaji Lynch in Washington, D.C. Wanting to deepen her yoga training, she completed her advanced 300 hour training with Beloved Yoga in 2012. Over the years, she has studied with different master teachers, but her primary teachers are close to home: Maryam Ovissi, Jafar Alexander and David Ingalls. It is her students, however, that are her inspiration.

It is her hope that in her classes students will be able to cultivate a comfortable relationship with their breath, and settle into a slower, deeper physical practice.

Lisa Hviding

Lisa’s journey into the study of yoga goes back many years. She first signed up for a 90-day trial at “It’s Yoga” when she lived in San Francisco back in the 90s and has been practicing ever since. In 2016, Lisa found her opportunity to dive a little deeper through the teacher training at Beloved Yoga. Eager to share her passion for yoga, she was determined to hone her understanding so that she could communicate, “why yoga!” This inquiry of “Why” guided Lisa through Beloved’s 200 hr and 300 hr teacher trainings. It was a deep dive that grounded her practice through the exploration of traditional teachings, and reaffirmed their value in our modern world. Whether understood as sattva or homeostasis, Lisa is dedicated to sharing the wisdom of yoga, as it offers essential tools of self-regulation. She firmly believes that yoga is for everyone. Her experience has made her adept at meeting students where they are, offering the customizations that help to build a relationship with the body, breath and mind. Lisa is a 500 RYT through the Yoga Alliance. Her training includes Pranayama, Yin, Senior, Trauma Informed and Accessible Yoga.

Amy Pulupa

My yoga journey began in 2002 when I walked into my first Anusara class. Stepping onto the mat instantly felt like home. Since then, I have spent a lot of free time exploring and practicing. In 2019, the stars aligned and I completed my 200-hour YTT at Beloved Yoga in Reston, Va under the mentorship of Maryam Ovissi.

My classes emphasize the importance of practicing continual awareness to create a union of mind and body through movement and breath. I believe that yoga is designed for everyone, and is a system that can be used to shape and strengthen not only the body but more importantly, to enhance the mind and create a better quality of life.

Varnita Kohli

Born and raised in the Himalayan Valley, Varnita discovered the transformative power of yoga during her teenage years. After moving to the U.S., she deepened her practice, blending her Indian heritage with her new cultural experiences further enhanced through training under leading Vinyasa and Hatha yoga gurus on routine travels to India. Varnita's passion for yoga led her to complete her 200 YTT with Beloved Yoga and soon after, she launched a kids' yoga initiative in her backyard to help them stay emotionally healthy and creative during the pandemic.

Thrilled to be part of the Beloved community, Varnita finds it truly rewarding to serve her neighborhood community and enjoys learning and sharing her love for yoga and Ayurveda in service to kids, youth and adults

Rooted in her passion to make Ayurveda accessible in the U.S. Varnita founded Be-Veda, (https://www.be-veda.com/home) an Ayurvedic wellness brand offering organic teas sourced from India to improve gut health, immunity and relaxation. Packed with vitamins and healing, Ayurvedic spices in tea blends provide calm, clarity, and a mind-body balance. Currently studying to be a certified holistic Ayurvedic coach, Varnita is dedicated to creating sustainable practices of Ayurveda and yoga.

With a deep-rooted love for India, she immerses herself in wellness practices and cultural explorations that inspire her to share the art of healing with others. She is excited to lead the "Journey to the Heart of Yoga and Ayurveda" retreat, and invites people from all walks of life to connect with their authentic selves and extend peace and happiness to the world.

Carmen Sanchez

Carmen believes yoga is a system that invites us to walk with clarity and attention to that inner place we call home. This way, we can experience a state of being and presence. Yoga offers us the opportunity to sense a peaceful and quiet mind through tools that will empower our will, attention, and goals in life, guiding us always to the liberation of the mind from its fluctuations.

Her first encounter with yoga was in her late teens, in the Andes of her native Venezuela at the Universal Great Brotherhood. She received her 200-hr Certificate in 2012 in Orlando, Florida at the Yoga Teacher Training of Central Florida, School of Hatha Yoga. She began to teach at studios, wellness centers, senior living communities, summer camp programs, and gyms. She also received training in Kids Yoga by Kidding Around Yoga, and also trained in the method of Creative Relaxation for Children with Special Needs. In 2019, she received her 300-hr Certification from Beloved Yoga Sanctuary. She also attended Beloved Yoga’s Trauma-Informed Yoga training, as well as Pranayama and Yin Yoga Training.

In 2017 she participated as a yoga instructor for adults and kids at the Floyd Yoga Jam Festival in Willis, Virginia. She also had the opportunity to lead one-week retreats in the Dominican Republic at Caribe Yoga in 2017 and 2018.

Carmen’s approach and orientation is friendly and welcoming, where participants are provided with practical and accessible tools to be able to experience wellness, but most importantly, a calm and peaceful mind.

Carmen is also a former professional contemporary dancer with more than 15 years of experience. She was a resident member at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Venezuela, and she had the opportunity to participate in several international festivals around the world.

Carmen also holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
