THIS WORKSHOP IS IN-PERSON ONLY

The easiest way to understand the Bhagavad-gita is to look at the world through the lens that the Gita offers us rather than looking at the Gita through the lens that the world imposes on us.

The sublime dialogue of the Bhagavad-gita is one of the most inspirational and challenging conversations in the history of sacred literature. One reason why the Gita is especially challenging for Western readers is that the conceptual foundation of the Gita’s philosophy is radically different from those of both modern science and traditional religion. In order to enter into the Gita’s world, we have to orient ourselves to the Gita's worldview.

Orienting ourselves to the Gita’s worldview isn’t a matter of intelligence; it’s a matter of mindset. The question we should be asking ourselves isn’t, “How can I interpret these concepts so that they make sense in the context of the modern world,” it’s “How can understanding these concepts help me make sense of the modern world?”

What if the key to understanding the Gita was in the Gita itself, present in its pages like a secret hiding in plain sight?

In this workshop, Hari-kirtana das will use his new book, Journey Into The Bhagavad Gita, as the basis for taking you on a guided adventure into the Gita’s world. Through a lively combination of lecture, discussion, guided meditation, journaling, and personal experiments, you’ll learn:

  • Which of the Gita’s verses reveal the secrets to understanding its teachings
  • Why orienting yourself to the Gita’s worldview is the key to realizing its transformational potential – and how to do it
  • What modern or postmodern assumptions we subconsciously carry into our reading of the Gita and how they undermine our ability to access the Gita’s teachings
  • How the radical spirituality of the Gita provides a logical foundation for contemporary spiritual activism
  • How to connect the Gita’s spiritual ideas to your lived experience

There will also be kirtan (musical mantra meditation), plenty of time for Q&A, and post-workshop refreshments.

At its core, the Bhagavad-gita is an answer to the question, “How should we respond to the challenges we face as spiritual beings living in the material world?” This workshop will be an exploration of how the Gita answers this vital question.
