This half-day program explores lifestyle practices for maintaining and building bone density and quality, and ways to improve posture and balance to prevent fractures, and lead an active, healthy life.

First, we will identify stressors contributing to bone loss and ways to avoid or mitigate compression. Then, we will explore nutrients helpful in building stronger, healthier bones through diet, digestion, and absorption. Finally, we will practice ways to align body, mind, and spirit for strength, balance, and stability.

In the past, significant loss of bone mineral density (osteoporosis) was diagnosed only after a bone fracture, which is too late for prevention. Today, osteoporosis can be detected earlier with a bone mineral density test (DEXA), fracture risk assessment (FRAX), and Trabecular Bone Score (TBS). If not prevented - or left untreated - osteoporosis can progress silently until you break a bone by falling or even an act as simple as coughing. Fortunately, our bones are vital, living, and constantly changing tissue designed to last a lifetime. Through your lifestyle choices, you can prevent or slow bone loss and damage and build strength and ease. You can feel it in your bones!

Workshop Goals:

- Building better body awareness, alignment, and posture

- Increasing muscle engagement and strength

- Protecting joints, ligaments, tendons while stimulating bone growth

- Restoring confidence in moving, balance and agility to prevent falls

- Increasing bone mass density

This workshop is part of the Belove Yoga 300HR Teacher Training and is open to everyone.

(PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is nonrefundable. You may request account credit by emailing admin@belovedyoga.com before November 15th)

Barbara Okerson

Yoga invites us to reconnect with an inner steady awareness in the presence of swirling thoughts, feelings, and sensations calling our attention.  With practice, you can focus this steady awareness to stay connected with your best self and intentions. Each breath is an opportunity to practice.  Let this breath be your first step.

Barbara is a yoga therapist certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and American Viniyoga Institute (AVI).  By adapting and integrating the tools of yoga to meet the needs of the individual, she creates a balanced practice to deepen self-awareness, restore health, and lead to personal transformation.  She teaches the Befriending Chronic Pain Class on Sundays.
