Jessica Croker, RYT-500 and MA in Art Therapy and Counseling student at Saint Mary of the Woods College, is conducting a study and needs your help!

What is somatic art-making?
Somatic art-making is done by paying close attention to your body's internal sensations and experiences. It is a free-flowing, intuitive, and mindfully meditative process.

Who can participate in the study?
This study is for women in midlife (ages 35-60) who experience body-image disturbance or body dissatisfaction of any kind.

How will it work?
1. Somatic art-making groups: Participants will be guided through four 60-minute somatic art-making group experiences. The group will be limited to 10 participants.
2. Questionnaires: Data will be collected using surveys and questionnaires throughout the 4 group experiences.

Participation is free and all art supplies are provided!

Jessica Croker

Jessica Croker, RYT-500, sees the yoga mat as a laboratory for experimentation. It’s a place to move and feel, try new things and settle into safety.  She approaches asana practice as an investigation, guiding students to move with awareness and experience how bone and muscle and fascia fit into each other.  It’s this awareness that helps us expand our capacity to choose— to move on purpose— to act with agency in our bodies.  The beautiful thing is that the lessons learned in physical ways spill over into our energetic, mental, and emotional layers.  Her classes move at a thoughtful pace, sometimes subtle, but always powerful.  You might even get to hear her pluck her guitar and chant mantra during savasana.

She started practicing yoga in 2001 while expecting her 2nd baby and now has two decades of consistent practice under her belt. In 2013, after she weened her 6th baby, she did her 200 HR teacher training in Shambavanada Yoga at Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in the beautiful mountains of Nederland, Colorado. Since that time she has done more advanced trainings through the Shambavanda school focusing on functional movement and modern fascia research.  She finished 500 HR through their sister ashram in Hawaii (konalaniyoga.orgShe has also trained with Cecily Milne of Yoga Detour and is a Yoga Detour Informed teacher.

Jessica loves riding her bike, stand-up paddle boarding, making art and music, and hanging out with her husband of 23 years and 6 children.  You can find out more about her at jessicacroker.com and follow her on Instagram @jessicacrokeryoga.
