This immersive weekend will lay down the foundations and essentials of Svastha Yoga Therapy’s approach to one of our most vital tools, the breath.

We will explore the value and necessity of cultivating the skills of awareness and cultivation of a relationship with:

  • Effort
  • Rate
  • Depth
  • Smoothness
  • Physical pattern/shape change
  • Cycle of inhalation and exhalation
  • Pauses
  • Comfort/feeling

You will gain a foundational understanding of breath as a connector and its impact on the autonomic nervous system, including a brief overview of interoception, homeostasis, vagal tone, heart rate variability, regulation through breath and connections based on the Polyvagal Theory.

Maryam will share insight and offer exploratory practices around how the diversity of asanas can invite us to investigate breath patterns.

We will spend time cultivating the inhalation and exhalation and the following considerations:

  • Movement/Position
  • Touch
  • Visualization
  • Sound
  • Emotion-based bhavana
  • Sensation exploration
  • Sequencing

We will offer an introduction and expand our lens for a general framework for cooling, heating and balancing breath practices:

  • ujjayi, ujjayi, anuloma-ujjayi, viloma- ujjayi, pratiloma- ujjayi
  • lahari, na?isodhana
  • bhastrika, kaphalabhati
  • bhramari
  • suryabhedana, candrabhedana
  • sitali, sitkari
