Beloved Yoga believes that Yoga and the Prenatal journey are a perfect match. Over the last decade, Beloved Yoga’s Prenatal program has offered Mamas a safe space to journey through pregnancy. Honoring all births and seeing them all as perfect (hospital, home, birth center, etc). We also believe Pregnancy is a powerful process in life, and we honor each Mama and the unique, empowering journey of pregnancy. The Beloved Yoga Prenatal & Doula Certification program is born from this respect for the journey.

We will use the 8 Limb Ashtanga framework of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. There will be a portion on Ayurveda and Pregnancy. We have combined Prenatal Yoga and Doula training because we recognize that prenatal yoga classes are one of the most powerful tools to support the birth journey. We also believe there needs to be a level of competency in Yoga and the birth process. This combined program will provide you with wisdom, intelligence, and tools that are useful for mama and baby.

Upon completion, you will:

• Learn about the anatomy, physiology and psychology of pregnancy

• Understand how the changing body through the trimesters affects the Asana, Pranayama and Meditation practices

• Learn the Beloved Yoga Intelligent Prenatal Yoga Sequencing

• Gain tools to create safe spaces in class for mamas to honor themselves and celebrate pregnancy

• Learn relaxation tools for mamas on and off the mat

• Gain insight into how breathwork and concentration practices can support mama, baby, and the birth process

This prenatal and doula training includes a unique mentoring component. The 45-hour mentoring program is included in the fee. You will to complete the following:

• Observe 10 classes at Beloved Yoga

• Teach 10 classes (at Beloved Yoga or other approved location)

• Meet for 2 mentoring sessions with your assigned mentor

• Complete reflective paper with1-3 takeaways after the birth education weekend

• Complete a reflective paper with 1-3 takeaways after the prenatal yoga teacher training weekend

To complete the Prenatal Certification and receive Yoga Alliance RPYT status, trainees need to complete the 45-hour mentoring program (observe/teach/mentor) outside of weekend hours.

Beloved Yoga is honored to partner with ToLabor to offer the first program of its kind in the United States, a combined Prenatal Yoga and Doula certification program. This teacher training fulfills the standards as set by Yoga Alliance and you will be recognized as an RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher).

After the first weekend, they are considered “professionally trained birth doulas” and may pursue certification through ToLabor. Requirements will be reviewed during the first weekend of training. Please visit tolabor.com for the details. Doula certification is not required for RPYT status.

Payment plans are available.

Maryam Ovissi, MA C-IAYT E-RYT 500, RCYT, RPYT, YACEP

Trauma Informed Yoga Therapist

"Yoga is a proven system and philosophy that provides tools for the individual to develop a self-care routine that meets them where they are. As a teacher, I am only the guide.”

Maryam is a certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and under the tutelage of Bhekaji Lynch, she received her 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) accreditation with Yoga Alliance. Honoring the lineage and teachings of Sri Krishnamacharya, Maryam upholds the principle that the Yoga practice is a personal and individual journey and not a one-size-fits-all practice. Although A.G. Mohan, Indra Mohan and Dr. Ganesh Mohan continue to serve as her main teachers, she claims nothing can replace the gifts and wisdom born forth by showing up for herself every day through Sadhana (personal practice). She continues to study with renowned teachers in the world of Yoga. Maryam’s personal mission as a teacher of Yoga is to provide an opportunity for her students to have access to tools that allow self-healing, self-empowerment and self-realization. Her unique style provides space for multi-level practitioners to journey through Yoga in group, semi-private and private classes. In her private Yoga teaching, Yogic tools are offered that serve the person and their personal intentions.

Exemplifying the Yogic life off the mat and beyond the studio, Beloved Yoga is dedicated to giving back to the commUnity, partnering with many outreach programs including the Remakery, Cornerstones, the Southgate Community Center and the Teen Center of Fairfax County. Maryam founded and is co-director of Love Your Body Day, an annual free event held since 2008 at the Reston Town Center bringing together local area yoga studios, wellness practitioners, eco-conscious vendors, and Bhakti music for a fun day of healthy activities for the whole family.

Maryam's personal expertise is in integrating yoga therapy into cancer care. She works as a Yoga Therapist at Inova Schar Cancer Institute- Life with Cancer as well as the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Maryam’s love expands to embrace the creative spirit. She is the founding Trustee for the Ovissi Foundation, dedicated to supporting artists of Iranian heritage. Maryam makes time to explore creativity in her own life through writing poetry and mark making. She released Soundscapes to Contemplate, a compilation CD of her poetry set to conscious electronic mantra music by artist and producer Saeed Younan.
